Red Velvet Cake (and Icing)

We made some really nice things while in 7th grade HomeEc and this Red Velvet Cake was a real keeper.

Red Velvet Cake (and Icing)

Ingredients

  • Liquids:
  • 1 1/2 Cups oil
  • 1 Cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 oz red food coloring
  • Dry Ingredients:
  • 2 1/2 Cups + 1 Tablespoon flour
  • 1 1/2 Cups sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon cocoa
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Directions

  1. Bake at 350F for 30 - 35 minutes*
  2. Mix liquids in mixing bowl.
  3. Sift dry ingredients and add gradualy to liquid; mixing all the time. Beat well.
  4. * until center springs back when touched lightly.
